Our Approach

Ikebana is not about “more flowers”—it’s about noticing: line, space, season. We combine the best of Eastern and Western floral sensibilities, emphasizing natural form and restraint so the materials can speak for themselves.

A Note from Our Founder

I’m Ryoko Arnwine, a Japanese floral designer and long-time ikebana practitioner. I studied Mishō-ryū ikebana for seven years in Osaka while working as a floral designer for the Ritz-Carlton Osaka. In 2017, I brought my work to New York, where I founded HanaYou in 2023. In 2025, I returned to Kyoto — the birthplace of ikebana — to share this art with locals, travelers, and online students in a relaxed, welcoming way.

My cross-cultural background shapes how I teach and design today, blending the tradition I grew up with and the modern influences I’ve embraced along the way. I hope you’ll join me in discovering the beauty and calm that ikebana can bring to your space and your day.
